Valentine’s Day in China
In China, the Western holiday of February 14 has become popular, especially among young people, with romantic rendezvous and gift exchanges. However, China also has its own traditions:
- The Qixi Festival, also known as “Lunar Valentine’s Day”, is celebrated on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month with local customs and traditional celebrations.
- 520, May 20, a day invented by Chinese internet users where “wǔ’èr líng” (520) sounds like “wǒ ài nǐ” (I love you)
- White Day on March 14 is another celebration borrowed from Japan, where men offer gifts in return to the women who gave them gifts on February 14.
